As part of the ongoing effort to address energy and environmental issues particularly in Northeast Asia, China with the Nautilus Institute sponsored a workshop from March 7 through 14, 2008. Training on promoting energy efficient buildings and sustainability was provided to a delegation from the DPRK. The first day of the meeting focused on updating our understanding of DPRK energy supply and demand and discussed options for international cooperation on the rehabilitation of the DPRK energy sector. The second day focused on the building sector in the DPRK, and on building energy efficiency initiatives in Northeast Asia and elsewhere that might serve as models for improvement of building energy efficiency in the DPRK. The presenters included Dr. David Von Hippel of the Nautilus Institute, Joe Leary of the Lawrence Berkely National Laboratory and Mike Hatten of SOLARC Architecture and Engineering, Inc.
